Recommended examinations

Annual eye examinations, including:

  • Visual acuity
  • Near and distant refraction
  • Intraocular pressure
  • Examination of the anterior segment of the eye
  • Examination of the fundus and optic nerve

Possible conditions

  • Presbyopia
  • Glaucoma
  • Cataracts
  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • AMD
  • Dry eye

Signs of eye problems

  • Head, neck and back ache
  • Difficulty seeing close objects
  • Tired, dry or red eyes or discomfort
  • Distorted vision and impaired visual acuity
  • Blurred or cloudy vision
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Loss of assurance when walking, stumbles and falls
  • Reduced sensitivity to colour, contrast and relief

* Regardless of age, for patients with refractive defects (especially high myopia), diabetes, hypercholesterolaemia, vascular problems or a history of eye disease, examinations should be performed annually.
